About
If you hadn’t already guessed by now, my name is Benjamin MacGowan. Unfortunately, I’m not related to the famous comedian Alistair McGowan, or the singer Shane MacGowan – although at times I have been known to be utterly hilarious and sung at numerous concerts over the years.
Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1989 and living in a country 10 years behind the times, the family decided to migrate back to Berkshire, United Kingdom when I was just 3 years old. In my opinion, I don’t think the Kiwis would have been able to cope with the cute ginger baby that I was.
I currently work for Creative Jar as a front-end web developer. My job entails creating cross-browser compatible templates with valid HTML and CSS before handing it over to the other techies within the company, who break it and then hand it back for me to fix.
Having left Sixth Form in 2008 with 3 A-levels, I was due to start a university course in Web Design. Throughout the summer holidays, I had a change of heart and applied for a position at Creative Jar and got the job. That being said, at the time I had 5 years experience in building websites and was completely self-taught.
Before starting my job, my knowledge in Javascript was near to none. 8 months down the line, I have found a new love for javascript – especially jQuery and am eager to learn more. Much like my tag line says, I have an almost unhealthy love for semantic HTML, CSS and jQuery.
When I am not coding, which is not very often, I like to watch American dramas such as Grey’s Anatomy, Ghost Whisperer and Heroes. Alternatively, I will be pwning the Alliance on World of Worldcraft.
This blog acts as a notepad for my thoughts, findings and debates that I come across daily in my work. Posts will mostly resolve around the topics I find interesting such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Facts and tips found in my posts may not be 100% correct and will change over time, but I try my hardest.
Everything aside, I am the only ginger male blogger worth knowing.
