I refuse to do newsletters and html emails at work without the client agreeing to a proper unsubscribe policy. Our host has strict restrictions too, which I'm happy to work with. Clients may find it a pain in the arse but as you say - nobody likes having to hunt around for an unsubscribe link.

Making it obvious when I started here (as opposed to hidden previously!) did not increase the unsubscribe rate (which is the typical excuse) so I don't see the big deal. Make it easy folks! One click, unsubscribe, no confirmation.

I had another thought. :P Another thing that I dislike is not being able to easily un-subscribe in Google Reader. I want to be reading, realize that the blog I'm skipping by is one I've skipped every day, and un-subscribe right there, on the post in Reader. Please pass this message on to the appropriate people. :D

There are a LOT of things that I need to un-subscribe to, but I'm often too lazy... the exact reason being, I am to lazy to find the link and actually un-subscribe. I suppose they think that by doing that, they're keeping me as a reader, when in fact I just click 'mark as read' and move on. But THEN I find that I'll be looking for an actual email, and it's buried! How annoying.
